Konza Prairie Quilters' Guild |
Cyndi Farrow, along with assistant Mike Farrow from The Fabric Chic Shop in Parkville, MO brought an informative and entertaining program on Collage Quilting. Cyndi's trunk show of collage quilts provided an array of inspiring creations, some of which you can view in the gallery below. After leaving the corporate world in 2016, Cyndi's focus shifted and she opened her own shop in 2018. She became fascinated with Laura Heine's collage techniques which she viewed as similar to the collages we made as kids, cutting photos and text from magazines to create a poster or vision board. You can now find a collection of Heine patterns and kits at The Fabric Chic. Cyndi coached the guild through some tips to creating a collage quilt. -Before starting, check the pattern size to be sure your collage is appropriate for your space. -Acquire and use appropriate supplies: 90/14 embroidery needles, 40 or 50 wt. thread, Steam A Seam 2 (not lite), Pattern Ease, black sharpie for tracing pattern, Karen K. Buckley medium scissors, Applique' pressing sheet or the Precision Fusing Mat 17" x 24". -Using the Steam A Seam 2 allows you to move fabric cut-outs around until you are satisfied with the overall look before any pressing is done. -Quilt in a grid to be sure that all small pieces of fabric are captured with stitches. Collage quilting is only limited by your imagination. |
