Vicky Beasley, from Leavenworth, KS, brought a trunk show of over forty quilts to share the numerous  ways that a bag of scraps can result in eye-catching, colorful quilts. While Vicky favors black backgrounds, she demonstrated how using the same pattern in different color ways has totally different visual appeal.

When Vicky became interested in quilting about twenty years ago, she was the mother of a toddler and a farm wife.  The family budget did not allow for the luxury of walking into a quilt store and  buying patterns and yards and yards of fabric, so Vicky started collecting fabric at farm and yard sales and then found a regional quilt store that occasionally offered a "bag sale." One could fill a gallon zip lock bag from the scrap bin with as much fabric as possible and still zip the bag closed.  This was a bonanza for Vicky and her source of inspiration for scrap quilts, hence her moniker, The Scrappy Farmer.

Vicky is also a Bonnie Hunter fan and has used several of Bonnie's designs in planning her quilts.  Another of Vicky's favorite strategies is strip quilting, where she can create multi-fabric strips from her scrap collection and create a colorful layout that evolves into a wonderful quilt.  Vicky's display quilt, "Perkiomen Daydreams," is 110 inches square and has over 10,000 one-inch pieces with one block repeated 400 times! Wowzers!

Vicky conducted a fun afternoon workshop on "Prairie Stones," creating scrappy blocks from each participant's stash.
