June Show and Share

Show and Share is always a highlight of every meeting when we see creations made by members. Shown in the gallery this month are quilts made by:

*Ginny Petersen and Alison McCullough: This quilt is a collaboration between USD 383 Library Media Specialists and KPQG. Students made quilt blocks in celebration of America's 250th Birthday. Ginny, guild president, then set the blocks, added sashing, border, and backing. Alison, long-armer and guild newsletter editor, completed the quilt with a patriotic design. This quilt is displayed along with other patriotic quilts at the Flint Hills Discovery Center through July.

*Carol Pacey shared the mini landscape quilt that she made following the workshop that was held with Kathy Menzie in March. "Fall Mountain Splendor" would be the perfect title for this little gem.

*Pam Russell was gifted an unfinished vintage Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt. Pam hand-pieced the remaining elements of this beauty, then hand quilted it to maintain its vintage authenticity.

*Laura Soelter was inspired by Jane Austen's writings and the Victorian era. She designed this quilt using muted earth tones of rust, brown, and peach fashioned into blocks with a diamond focal point. Exquisite!

*Linda Bittel first shared a unique Quilt of Valor using red, white, and blue star fabrics pieced into waves using a drunkard's path template. Secondly, Linda contributed a Quilt From the Heart with sports themed fabrics that will be a big hit for some little person at the Crisis Center. Lastly, Linda showed a Christmas strip quilt that she made from all of the strips that she won at the strip poker game at our Holiday Party. She is donating this quilt to be sold at the Quilters' Marketplace.

*Lana Arpin also shared a vintage quilt coverlet.  This Yo-Yo quilt in mint condition was discovered by Lana at an estate sale and purchased for $50. Alas, the woman selling it said her grandmother had made it. Hopefully, Grandmother is resting in peace, knowing that her quilt has been lovingly acquired and restored by Lana.

*Kay Shepherd showed an Improv Log Cabin quilt that she made using Cherrywood New Meadows fabric. Kay also shared a QuiltCon raffle quilt that she won, which was made by the KC Modern Quilt guild as a challenge quilt with a leaf motif on white background.

*Dona Koster used pastel 1930's fabrics to make this beautiful, detailed sampler quilt. This will make a lovely gift to a treasured friend who took her family in between a relocation move.

*Janet Finney is a multi-talented stitcher as is evident from her show and share offerings this month. First, the skill of wool embroidery is demonstrated with a floral wool table mat. Then cross-stitching was used to make the wall hanging "Halloween Show and Tell at the Witch's Retreat." The bird quilt was also hand stitched using Valdani thread.

*Kathy Garvin knows what every 16-year-old likes: a bright, modern, unique tumbling block quilt. What a wonderful birthday gift this will be for Kathy's granddaughter!
