February 13: Challenge Quilt Reveal
Betty Frank and Ronna Robertson provided the February program titled Threads and Treads. Through a slide show that gave members a glimpse of the diverse perspectives from which one can look at cars, routes, and the history of transportation, Betty introduced the 2023 KPQG Quilt Challenge. The setting at Midwest Dream Car Collection for this reveal was a perfect complement to the challenge theme of combining quilting with a car connection. Visitors to the MDCC Museum will find a treasure trove of classic and historic cars; so visit them at https://midwestdreamcarcollection.org/.
Ronna and Betty explained the rules of the challenge, which include incorporating a specific fabric into the quilt in some way. Fat quarters of a wide variety of car, travel, and gear-related fabrics were available for selection. Members enjoyed the opportunity to browse the museum and choose a fat quarter to work into their challenge quilts. What fun! Visit the Members Only page on this website to see the 2023 Quilt Challenge Rules. The completion deadline for the quilts is the August 14 meeting. Quilts will be displayed and judged during the September 11 meeting when the Guild meets back at the Midwest Dream Car Collection. Visit the Challenge Quilt page under Activities for more information. Members may access the instructions there. | Betty Frank introduces the 2023 KPQG Challenge. Betty's husband, Ron, is a car enthusiast and restorer and served as inspiration for this year's theme. Ronna Robertson shows a sample of a quilt that she made to honor her husband's classic Chevy. |
